Abu Dhabi Introduces New Rapid Transit Public Transport

Commuters in Abu Dhabi now have a new way of getting around: a bus-tram transport that is called the Automated Rapid Transit project (ART). Is it a bus or a tram? It’s actually a three-carriage electric vehicle that is a hybrid of a tram and a bus, and it can carry up to 200 passengers per trip. ART vehicles can move just like regular public buses, but can transport them quickly like a train, and their seating arrangements are similar to what you can see in the Metro. The Integrated Transport Centre launched the pilot phase of the ART on Abu Dhabi Island on Thursday (October 12), after introducing it on Yas Island and Saadiyat Island. ARTs run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and operate between Reem Mall on Reem Island and Marina Mall (via Zayed the First Street, also known as Electra Street.

ART timings

The first trip on the ART starts from Al Reem Mall, and runs from 10am until 2pm. Its Marina Mall service starts at 11am and runs until 3pm. The pilot phase of the project includes 25 stations along routes extending for about 27km in the interior areas of Abu Dhabi. ICA/Expat Media
