DUBAI – An Ethiopian woman on transit at the Dubai International Airport gave birth with the help of Dubai Police after she went into labour while waiting for her flight home. According to Dubai Police, the woman was with her three children on their transit stop in Dubai when she unexpectedly went into labour. The family arrived in Dubai on an Emirates flight from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. “Being with her three children, the woman panicked and became worried because no one was with her to look after them,” said Major General Ali Atiq Bin Lahej, Director of the General Department of Airports Security at Dubai Police. Dubai Police quickly went to her aid as she went into labour. She gave birth at the airport clinic. "They communicated with the operation room to prepare the clinic to receive an emergency childbirth, where the traveller gave birth to her healthy newborn baby,” Major Bin Lahej said. The woman, her newborn and three other children were later transferred to Latifa Women and Children Hospital to receive necessary care. They were later transferred to a hotel near the airport that would serve as their home prior to their flight home. "We made sure a team regularly checked on the Ethiopian traveller in the hospital, provided her with in-kind gifts, facilitated the procedures of her departure back to her home country in cooperation with partners," he said.
