A four-month-old baby boy is fighting for his life after a devastating car crash in Abu Dhabi claimed the lives of his parents and left his two sisters injured. The infant, identified as Syed Umar, suffered a severe brain injury in the August 7 crash and is currently on a ventilator at an Abu Dhabi hospital. His family said doctors have described his condition as “very critical” with slim chances of survival. “Syed is breathing with the help of a ventilator and doctors have said he is almost fully brain dead,” his uncle, Syed Mateen, told media. The crash, which occurred around 3am in Al Dhannah City, killed Syed’s father, Syed Waheed, 35, and mother, Sana Begum, 27, as the couple were driving back to their home in Al Ruwais after a trip to Abu Dhabi. Syed’s sisters, Sidrah, 8, and Sadiya, 2, both suffered leg fractures and are recovering at a hospital in Al Ruwais after undergoing surgery. They are expected to be discharged early next week. The family has not yet told the children about their parents’ deaths. Their grandfather is set to arrive from Hyderabad, India, to take custody of the children. The couple’s remains were repatriated to India and buried on August 9. Syed Waheed, a cybersecurity professional, had lived in the UAE since 2018 with his wife and children.
