Baby survives fall from Ras Al Khaimah building

DUBAI – An Egyptian baby girl is in critical condition after falling from the window of her family’s apartment in Ras Al Khaimah. According to Al Khaleej newspaper, the 19-month-old baby climbed onto a sofa bed near the open window of the 10th floor apartment in Khuzam area on Sunday evening. The toddler’s father was out shopping for groceries, while her mother was preparing her son’s school bag when she saw the baby climb out the window. The toddler fell and landed on the rear windscreen of a white Toyota car, which helped cushion her fall. Doctors believe the car may have helped "save her life".

However, she sustained severe injuries from the impact of the fall and was taken to Saqr Hospital for treatment of internal bleeding, fractures and severe head trauma. She was also transferred to Obaidullah Hospital for an advanced scan before being returned to Saqr Hospital to continue her treatment. The baby's father, Mahmoud Farghali, said his daughter remains in sedation as doctors worked to keep her condition stable. Farghali said the family recently bought the sofa bed and didn't imagine that the baby would be able to climb it.
