Bachelors face eviction from Abu Dhabi residential areas as municipality intensifies crackdown on overcrowding

  ABU DHABI – Bachelors overcrowding apartments and villas in residential areas of Abu Dhabi face eviction and fines of up to Dh100,000, with the Abu Dhabi City Municipality recently launching an awareness campaign to strictly implement laws against the practice. Under Abu Dhabi's law, bachelors and company workers found in residential neighbourhoods will be evicted as part of the emirate's move to safeguard health and safety in residential areas. The law only allows up to six bachelors to live together in detached residential villas. The occupants must be employees of local and federal government, private institutions, and judiciary or diplomats. Villas and residential units can be rented out for hotel and tourism purposes, if licensed by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority. The municipality said that inspectors will issue fines to violators -including landlords and investors - and refer their case to the Abu Dhabi public prosecution. It also said that violators will be given fines ranging from Dh10,000 to Dh100,000.
