Philippines distributes balikbayan boxes abandoned by Dubai-based cargo

The Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Tacloban continues to distribute balikbayan boxes or care boxes abandoned by Dubai-based cargo company All Win Cargo and its deconsolidator Cargoflex Haulers Corporation. According to BOC, it received 70 balikbayan boxes bound for families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Tacloban on December 27. A total of 39 boxes have so far been claimed by their owners. The boxes were distributed free of charge to the families of OFWs following an order by Customs Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz. The BOC is working to release the remaining balikbayan boxes in line with the directive of the Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. In Cagayan De Oro, the BOC received 99 balikbayan boxes for consignees in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Surigao, Davao and Zamboanga del Sur. Port of CDO District Collector Alexandra Yap-Lumontad said the delivery is part of the 4,625 packages that OFWs sent through All Win Cargo. She said as of January 4, some 52 balikbayan boxes have been claimed by consignees. The port intends to deliver all 99 balikbayan packages by the end of January. Consignees can contact BOC Tacloban and CDO to claim their packages. ICA/Expat Media
