It's illegal to have a barbecue on balcony: Sharjah to fine violators with Dh500
SHARJAH – Building tenants in Sharjah who use their balconies for barbecues and grills will be fined Dh500 as part of an intensified crackdown. According to Sharjah City Municipality, the illegal and dangerous trend has increased due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with social distancing forcing many people forced to stay home. Civic authorities, however, say having a barbecue on your balcony or terrace creates smoke and foul smell that will disturb other residents and can potentially start a fire in the building. Brigadier Sami Al Naqbi, Director-General of the Sharjah Civil Defence, pointed out that major fires had broken out in Sharjah because of the illegal practice. There is currently a blanket ban on barbecue and grill in balconies in residential buildings in Sharjah, with the Sharjah City Municipality putting up circulars at property entrances. The municipality urged residents to report violators by calling 933.
