Batch of tainted medicine, medical device taken off UAE shelves

  DUBAI - Batches of medical device and medicine have been taken off UAE shelves after authorities found anomalies considered potentially dangerous to human health, said an official at the Ministry of Health and Prevention. Ameen Hussain Al Amiri, assistant undersecretary for public health policy and licences and chairman of the UAE’s higher pharmacovigilance committee, said that the health ministry has issued a circular to hospitals, pharmacies and medical districts regarding the recall. The recall affects No Nexcare Family Set with batch number 201809LT manufactured by 3M Gulf Ltd. The device is used to cover injuries and wounds. This particular batch was withdrawn due to a typographical error in the labelling. The correct label must indicate an expiration date of September 2018, according to the ministry's circular. Miacin 500mg/2ml IV/IM ampoules with the batch number D041, manufactured by Hikma Pharmaceuticals, was also recalled. The medicine is used to treat bacterial infections. An inspection of the medicine found visible particles in the injection ampoules. The batch that was withdrawn expires in June 2018, the ministry said.
