Pop superstar mulls investment on the Houston team, according to Bloomberg sources

  LOS ANGELES - Singer, actress, businesswoman and basketball team owner? Bloomberg quoted sources as saying that pop superstar Beyonce is reportedly planning to purchase a stake at the Houston Rockets, which had been put up for sale by Leslie Alexander, who bought the team in 1993 for US$85 million. Beyonce is from Houston and even wore a Rockets jersey in a past performance. Alexander said after consulting his family and friends, he decided to put up the Rockets for sale. He did not explain why. Forbes had placed the team's worth at US$1.65 billion with revenues of more than US$200 million. Observers however believe that the Rockets would sell for more than that, possibly reaching US$2 billion judging by the interest shown by other individuals in the US and those in China where the Rockets are popular. Beyonce's reported interest on the Rockets isn't surprising as several entertainment and sports celebrities own or had owned stakes in sports teams. Even her husband, rapper Jay-Z, once held a minor stake at the Brooklyn Nets but sold his share after setting up Roc Nation, which represents athletes. The Rockets, Beyonce's publicist Yvette Noel-Schure, reps at Sony Music Entertainment and Jay-Z's spokeswoman either declined to comment or have not issued any statement on the matter. If and when Beyonce indeed buys a stake in the Rockets, Bloomberg said she "would add superstar sizzle to any ownership group, likely helping the team with local and international marketing."
