Bibliophiles in the UAE have reason to celebrate—Ajman is set to host the world’s largest book fair, Big Bad Wolf, for the first time. The fair will run from September 25 to October 5 at the Ajman Youth Center, offering more than 250,000 books with discounts of up to 90 percent. Prices will start at just Dh2. Entry is free, and doors will be open daily from 10am to 9pm. The event is sponsored by the Department of Tourism Development in Ajman, in collaboration with the Government of Ajman, Sharjah Book Authority, and the Office of Special Educational Affairs. At a press conference announcing the fair, Mahmoud Khalil Al Hashemi, Director General of the Tourism Development Department, said the exhibition “reflects the emirate’s commitment to supporting culture and knowledge and promoting reading in society.” Big Bad Wolf founder Andrew Yap added: “The goal of Big Bad Wolf is to make reading accessible to everyone around the world. Books are not a luxury, but a right for everyone.” First launched in 2009, the Big Bad Wolf initiative has expanded to over 50 cities in 17 countries. Ajman will be its 51st stop, promising readers a wide selection of titles—from fiction and science to children’s literature and self-development. ICA/Expat Media
