Blast destroys apartment in Dubai's Al Khail Gate community

  DUBAI – A powerful blast destroyed an apartment on the top floor of a five-storey building in Dubai’s Al Khail Gate community on Wednesday (August 24). At least three people, including a baby, were injured in the incident in Building 39 at Phase One of the community. The Dubai Civil Defence said that two women were seriously injured in the blast, which they said was caused by a gas cylinder explosion. The injured women were identified as Shirin Gandhi, 60, and Mariam Gandhi, 35. The explosion appears to have destroyed all the glass panels of the apartment and also damaged the balcony of an apartment on the fourth floor. A gas cylinder, which appeared to be intact, could be seen in the rubble. The explosion did not spark any fire. Fallen debris also lay scattered on the ground near the building although there were no immediate reports of casualties.
