Bohol seeks new digital momentum

  CEBU CITY -  The province of Bohol seeks new momentum in its vision for the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector as it packs series of activities viewed to drumbeat its new ICT brand dubbed Digital Bohol. At a meeting of a technical working group called by Governor Edgar Chatto through the Bohol Investment Promotion Center, Bohol ICT Council president Lai Biliran expressed enthusiasm for Bohol's chances in easing poverty through the ICT-related programs, sought as a third pillar of development. The meeting, comprised by related offices of the Provincial Government as well as national government agencies, business sector including telecoms, and the academe, kicks off Digital Bohol with participation at the upcoming international ICT conference called Geeks on a Beach. Happening on August 25 and 26 in Panglao, Geeks on a Beach gathers an estimated 600 delegates who will participate in the forum that will feature industry experts such as Silicon Valley capitalists, new ICT officials and players, technopreneurs, startups and the like. Not only does Bohol stand to benefit from promotion boost through its tourism industry, local ICT stakeholders will have access to thinking, insights, practical lessons and inspiration for new ICT business endeavors as well as technological advances. Geeks on a Beach is seen to open multiple opportunities in ICT, tourism, and assisted industries especially with presence of social media giant Facebook and international media as well. The event will have elevated Bohol brand in the ICT industry. The international ICT event also precedes the upcoming Digital Bohol summit as well as the Open Collaboration with East Asia New Champions (OCEAN) 16 slated in October. At recent Bohol ICT meeting, Jones Lang Lasalle, a premier consulting firm for ICT developers presented to both government and private  sector players the ICT industry growth throughout the country and even more developments in established IT centers in the Visayas.
