UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (January 13) to review and strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries. The meeting took place during Marcos’ working visit to the UAE, where he is attending Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key areas, including economy, trade, investment, and renewable energy, as well as other sectors aligned with the development priorities of both nations. Both leaders also highlighted the importance of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week as a global platform for addressing shared challenges, particularly climate change, and for promoting innovative solutions that support sustainable growth. Renewable energy projects in the Philippines, led by UAE-based clean energy company Masdar, were cited as a reflection of the two countries’ shared commitment to sustainable development. The meeting further covered the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) expected to be signed during Marcos’ visit. The agreement aims to boost trade and investment ties, with the UAE currently among the Philippines’ leading trading partners in the region. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations in ways that deliver long-term benefits to their peoples. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President; and several ministers and senior officials.
