Boost in events, weddings, concerts expected in Dubai

  DUBAI – Event organisers, wedding planners and fashion designers expressed hopes of a boost in business after Dubai authorities relaxed rules for events and activities. Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management announced on Monday an easing of precautionary measures effective May 17 for a trial period of one month. Events and concerts in Dubai are now allowed, capped at 1,500 attendees for indoor venues and 2,500 attendees for outdoor venues. “It is very promising that Dubai is continually working toward a new normal that can safely bring back business for us in the events industry,” said Mars De los Santos, CEO of Ultimate Productions, a Dubai-based events management company that organizes concerts and community events for government entities and companies. De los Santos said a boost in events, wedding and concerts is expected as people learn to work under the new normal. “Everyone in the industry will certainly benefit from the return of events in Dubai, not just organisers, but media and PR, technical crew, performers, and even designers,” De los Santos said, adding that residents must still “remain vigilant in protecting everyone’s health and safety”.

Dubai weddings in true fashion

Rules around wedding events in Dubai have also been relaxed. Wedding events will now be allowed at Dubai hotels at a maximum of 100 attendees. For home weddings, up to 30 attendees are allowed. All attendees and staff must be vaccinated. One of Dubai’s top fashion designers, Furne One, told Expatmedia.net that Monday’s announcement is welcome news for the fashion industry in the UAE. With restrictions eased for weddings and events, Furne One said it is “giving us hope of things going back to happy times”. He said that the fashion industry, which relies heavily on events and weddings, was one of those hit by a slump in demand since last year. Furne One has created elaborate haute couture for Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities through his label, Amato Couture, in the last 20 years. He created the stunning gowns for Miss Philippines Rabiya Mateo in the recent Miss Universe pageant.

Live entertainment and activities in Dubai

Event organisers said they expect a big boost in business as Dubai authorities on Monday also announced that live entertainment and activities will be permitted in hotels, malls, restaurants and cafes. Media manager Mary Heart Lynn Turla said a return of events will also give people an outlet to relax amid the pandemic and allow organisers to “gain what was lost in the past”. “Having relaxed rules about crowds means it's getting better, not only for the events industry, but for everyone in general. I am just hoping people would take this with a grain of salt as the pandemic is unpredictable,” said Turla, whose company, Zhilan Creative is involved in a three-day event for BTS fans at The Pointe, Palm Jumeirah from May 20 to 22. Vhie Laurilla, Managing Director of event management firm Purple & Pink Creatives, echoed the same sentiment. “Though this is still temporary, we do hope it would continue for the wheel of economy to turn steadily. We must bear in mind to keep safe in everything we do and continue to pray for the best in the coming days,” Laurilla told Expatmedia.net.
