Boy beaten at Dubai mosque? Here’s the real story

DUBAI – Authorities have issued a statement after a video went viral on social media, purportedly showing a student beaten by his teacher at a mosque in Dubai. But what exactly is the real story? The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department has issued statement to clear the matter. In the video, a boy is seen being struck on the head and chased around a mosque as other students watched. According to the department, the incident did not take place in Dubai. "We refute the rumours on social media about the so-called incident where a Qur'an student was beaten by his teacher at a mosque in Dubai,” according to the statement. "This incident did not happen in Dubai. The video has been shared on social media multiple times and it took place many years ago," the department added. The department said that strict rules and regulations are enforced in all religious centres and mosques regarding disciplinary action in line with local and global standards. In the UAE, spreading rumours or false information is a criminal offense that attracts a fine of up to Dh1 million.
