Dubai expat gets Dh5,000 refund for stolen iPhone bought on Carrefour Marketplace

A British expatriate and his wife have gotten a Dh5,000 refund for an iPhone they bought in Dubai through Carrefour Marketplace that later turned out to have been stolen in the UK. Andy Gibbins, a British consultant, said he received the iPhone 13 Pro Max as a Christmas gift from his wife on November 26. It was brand new and still in a box, he said, as reported by The National. The mobile phone worked in the UAE but when Gibbins used it during a business trip in the UK, the device stopped connecting to the local network. He found out through the local Apple Store that the mobile phone had been reported stolen and was blacklisted since September 2022. Carrefour Marketplace has launched a full investigation into the incident, and has suspended the third-party seller who sold the iPhone 13 Pro Max on the online platform. "We have issued a full product refund to the customer in question, and the seller has been suspended until the investigation concludes.
