A 42-year-old British expatriate is now in jail in Dubai for driving while drunk and committing other major traffic violations. The Dubai Traffic Court sentenced the Briton to one month in jail for driving under the influence of alcohol. His driving licence was also suspended for six months for jumping the red light, driving in the opposite direction and damaging property. The Public Prosecution asked the court to impose stiff penalties on the Briton for unlawful driving. Counselor Salah Bu Faroosha Al Falasi, Senior Advocate General and Head of Traffic Prosecution, said a Dubai Police patrol officer apprehended the Briton when he was seen driving in the opposite direction of traffic, jumping the red light and causing damage to property. The expat tested positive for consuming alcohol and was found to have a blood alcohol content of 179 percent. He was detained pending a full investigation by the Public Prosecution.
