A British teacher in Abu Dhabi has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined Dh5,000 after being found guilty of accepting bribes to alter students' exam results. The teacher, whose identity has not been revealed, was employed at a private school in the UAE capital. Following his sentence, he will be deported from the country. The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal ruled that the teacher had solicited bribes from multiple students in exchange for artificially inflating their grades. His actions, the court said, had a detrimental impact on the education system, undermining both the credibility of the examination process and the integrity of academic institutions in the UAE. The investigation into the teacher's illegal activities was launched by the Federal Public Prosecution after it received reports of suspicious behavior. A thorough examination of the evidence confirmed that the teacher had manipulated the grades of several students. The authorities acted swiftly to file the case, and the court delivered its verdict shortly after. The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution emphasized that the UAE’s zero-tolerance policy for bribery and corruption applies across all sectors, including education. "The safety and fairness of our education system are of paramount importance," a representative of the prosecution stated. "Those who exploit their positions of trust to commit acts of corruption will face the full force of the law." The Public Prosecution revealed that it is currently investigating several other instances of exam tampering and cheating within the UAE’s education system. Following the verdict, school authorities are now introducing stricter measures to prevent any future instances of exam tampering or bribery, including more robust exam monitoring systems and tighter controls over exam result submissions.
