The world’s tallest building will light up in the colours of the Philippine flag on Thursday (June 12) in celebration of the 127th Philippine Independence Day. According to the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Burj Khalifa light show is scheduled for 7:50pm. It will once again honor the UAE’s vibrant Filipino community, which numbers around one million residents. Since 2019, the iconic Burj Khalifa has marked Philippine Independence Day annually with a dazzling LED display of the Philippine flag. The gesture is widely seen as a symbol of appreciation for the Filipino expatriate population, one of the largest in the UAE. The Philippines commemorates its independence every June 12, marking the day in 1898 when it declared freedom from over three centuries of Spanish colonial rule. This year’s celebrations have already kicked off with major community events. On June 1, Kalayaan 2025 by Emirates Loves Philippines and organizer Infinite Communities drew more than 40,000 attendees at the Dubai World Trade Centre, featuring Filipino celebrities Julia Barretto, MJ Cayabyab, Kai Montinola, and Jarren Garcia. Another event was held in Al Ain on June 7. A third celebration, organized by the Filipino Social Club, will be held on June 14 at the Dubai World Trade Centre and will feature actor Enrique Gil as a special guest. ICA/Expat Media
