Burj Khalifa lights up in Canada flag colours

DUBAI – Hundreds of people gathered in Dubai to watch the world’s tallest tower light up in the colours of the Canada flag. The Canadian flag was digitally displayed on the Burj Khalifa on Monday (July 1) to mark Canada Day. There are approximately 40,000 Canadians residing in the UAE. UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a message of congratulations to Canada Governor General Julie Payette on the occasion of Canada Day. Similar greetings were sent to the Governor General by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed also dispatched similar messages to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Monday’s display follows last month’s Philippine Independence Day tribute where the Philippine flag was digitally displayed for the first time on the façade of the Burj Khalifa, drawing hundreds of spectators.
