Cadaver mix-up in bodies repatriated from UAE to India
DUBAI – The employer of an Indian man who died in the UAE said that "human error" caused a mix-up that sent the wrong body back to India.
Indian embassy staff and UAE officials are reportedly working around the clock to resolve the error.
In Kerala, families of Nidhin Othayoth Kottaron, 29, were shocked when they opened his coffin to find the body of Kamatchi Krishnan, 39, from Tamil Nadu.
Krisnan's remains are currently in an Indian government hospital mortuary, awaiting clearance.
Officials said Kottaron, who was a site supervisor for a company based in Ruwais, was found hanging in his company's accommodation on July 5.
Krishnan, who was an electrician, reportedly died of a cardiac arrest on July 7.
Sunil Kumar, Kottaron's employer and relative, said the mix-up happened due to a human error while identifying the body.
"Our company's PRO and a few colleagues wrongly identified Krishnan as Nidhin. I think the error occurred because the face was swollen and also there were no close relatives to accompany us to the mortuary," Kumar told the media.
