The UAE’s revised federal traffic law, which came into effect on March 29, grants authorities the power to arrest drivers involved in serious violations under Article 31 of the new regulations. Authorities can immediately detain a driver in the following cases: Causing death or injury – If a driver is responsible for a fatal accident or injures someone while driving. Severe property damage – If reckless driving results in significant damage to public or private property. Reckless driving – Operating a vehicle dangerously or irresponsibly, putting others at risk. Driving under the influence (DUI) – Being caught driving while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other substances. Refusing to provide identification – Failing to provide name, address, or official identification after committing a serious offence, or giving false information to authorities. The updated law aims to enhance road safety, reduce accidents, and ensure that drivers who pose a significant risk to public safety face strict legal consequences. ICA/Expat Media
