Food safety department sought to allays fear that cardamom is poisonous

  DUBAI - The municipal food safety department has dispelled rumors circulating in the municipality that Cardamom is poisonous. The rumor was spread via social media, prompting the Dubai office to declare that the spice is edible and is not made from poisonous plants thus making it unfit for human consumption. Eman Al Bastaki, who heads the food safety department, issued a statement that said: "This rumour is absolutely false, especially that many people have consumed this product for centuries and there has never been any reports about the dangers of cardamom." She urged the public to to believe any food rumor right away in the absence of an official statement and assured that food inspectors regularly check products in the local market to ensure its quality and safety.
