Two-time Olympic gold medalist gymnast Carlos Yulo has recently joined the Philippine Navy Reserve Force as a Petty Officer First Class (PO1), the Navy announced on Wednesday (October 2). The 23-year-old Filipino athlete, who recently competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, was formally enlisted during a ceremony at the Navy headquarters in Manila on Tuesday (October 1). “I am proud to have the privilege of being enlisted in the Philippine Navy Reserve Force, a recognition I never expected in my lifetime. Wearing this Navy uniform fills me with immense pride,” Yulo said. Major General Joseph Ferrous Cuison, the commander of the Naval Reserve Command, led the ceremony where he also delivered the message of Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., the Philippine Navy Flag Officer In Command. “Your dedication, discipline, and drive made you a champion on the world stage, and now, you bring those same qualities to the Philippine Navy. We know that when you commit to something, you give it your all. I am confident you will do the same as a reservist, standing alongside men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and uplifting our nation,” Adaci said in his message. The Philippine Navy reaffirmed its dedication to “nurturing exceptional individuals who embody the values of discipline, dedication, and service with the continuous mission to inspire the Filipino people and uplift the nation.” As part of the Philippine Navy reserves, Yulo is expected to engage in training exercises and may be called upon to lend support during national emergencies while maintaining his athletic career.
