Travellers entering or leaving the UAE must now declare any cash, jewellery, or valuables exceeding Dh60,000, according to updated customs regulations announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP). The authority launched an online system called Afseh, accessible through declare.customs.ae or the Afseh mobile app, for passengers traveling to or from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah. Passengers flying through Dubai must use the iDeclare app by Dubai Customs. The rule applies to all passengers aged 18 and above. Travellers below 18 who are carrying amounts over Dh60,000 can declare through an accompanying adult family member. The declaration covers cash, currencies, precious metals, jewellery, or personal goods, and travellers will receive an SMS once the ICP approves their declaration. The ICP emphasized that the process is free of charge, allowing passengers to track application status online. The updated guidelines also align with the Unified Customs Law of the GCC, which mandates full disclosure of high-value items to ensure compliance and security at UAE borders. Travellers must also note that gifts exceeding Dh3,000 are subject to customs duties, while tobacco limits are capped at 200 cigarettes or equivalent. Authorities also reminded travellers of the list of prohibited items, which includes narcotics, gambling tools, raw ivory, radioactive materials, counterfeit currency, laser pens, and materials violating public morality. Some restricted items, such as live animals, plants, firearms, or medical drugs, require prior approval from relevant ministries including Defence, Interior, Health and Prevention, and Climate Change and Environment, among others. “The declaration system ensures transparency, safety, and smooth travel experiences while upholding UAE’s international standards,” the ICP said in a statement.
