Foreign and local travelers were all smiles as they explored the newly inaugurated Carmen Tourist Rest Area (TRA) in Cebu—the first of its kind in the Philippines—marking a milestone in the country’s bid to elevate the travel experience. The vibrant new stopover, unveiled on October 13, features local delicacies and pasalubong items proudly crafted by Cebu’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). It offers more than just a place to rest. It’s a showcase of Filipino hospitality and craftsmanship. A flagship initiative of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, in partnership with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority and the Local Government Unit of Medellin, the Carmen TRA sets the benchmark for comfort and convenience on Philippine roads. Travelers can enjoy free clean restrooms, cozy lounges, charging stations, and a tourist information desk, creating a seamless experience for road trippers and tourists exploring the province. “This Tourist Rest Area isn’t just about comfort; it’s about showcasing our culture and community,” Frasco said in earlier statements about the project. The Carmen TRA is part of the 100 Tourist Rest Areas being developed nationwide to enhance infrastructure and improve overall tourism accessibility.
