Drug lord No. 2 in Cebu town surrenders to police

  CEBU CITY - The brother of a town mayor in Cebu is the latest in a string of suspected drug dealers who have surrendered to police across the country, police said on Wednesday (July 6). Jover Jusay surrendered himself to Catmon police chief Roberto Hugo during the weekend. He is second on the police watchlist and is suspected of dealing in methamphetamine, locally known as shabu. More than 70 drug users and pushers have voluntarily surrendered to the Catmon police since Saturday. The most recent surrenders include 20 drug pushers and users in Barangay Macaas on Wednesday. The mass surrender of people suspected of having involvement in the illegal drug trade follows the tough anti-drug campaign of new Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who has promised police and the public huge rewards for catching drug dealers and criminal elements. Speaking to ExpatMedia.Net, Catmon Mayor Dan Jusay said he has long heard rumours that his brother, Jover, is involved in illegal drug trade. Jusay blamed his brother's wife's relatives in Danao City, saying they may have influenced his brother to be involved in illegal drug dealings. Meanwhile, Hugo told ExpatMedia.Net that Jover surrendered himself on Saturday and signed an affidavit promising that he will stop selling illegal drugs. Hugo said that Jover has been under police surveillance. He reportedly sells an average of 50 grams of shabu per week, which costs P590,000. Hugo said that Jover has been selling drugs for almost a year and gets his supply from Danao City. Police were not able to recover any illegal drugs from Jover when he surrendered. Meanwhile, Mayor Jusay said he had warned Jover that he will not tolerate his illegal activity.
