Facility needs funds to sustain operations

  ABU DHABI – A center that caters to children with learning difficulties is in dire need of funds for its operations. The Taleem Center for Training and Skills Development founded by Shereen Jassem said she needs at least Dh1 million to keep the facility open and if she cannot find money for the center, it might close in a matter of months. Using her own money, Jassem opened the center in 2014 to help children with learning disabilities who were expelled or rejected by schools. Jassem had a son who has dyslexia. Some of the children enrolled in the center are sponsored and the center offers discounts and installment plans. Each child costs the center up to Dh40,000 a year. A class at the Taleem Center costs Dh300 and the facility employs 11 specialists. "I wanted to sustain this but it will need up to Dh1 million to keep it running and I can no longer afford it," said Jassem in an interview. "I had hoped that the government or education authorities would fund this business, and I've gone to them for help because this is a public service and there is nothing like it in the UAE. I appreciate their support in referring students to me and recognising our services, but what we need is sponsorship and funding," Jassem said further.
