The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) is exploring ways to expand Philippine schools worldwide to better serve Filipino families abroad. CFO Secretary Dante Ang II highlighted the initiative during a televised interview, emphasizing the importance of educational continuity for children of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). With 35 Philippine schools currently operating in countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Greece, the CFO envisions a broader network to cater to the growing demand for Filipino-centric education. As of December 2022, these schools had enrolled approximately 25,000 students from pre-elementary to high school levels. “We aim to ensure Filipino children abroad can seamlessly transition when returning home,” Ang said. He clarified that Philippine schools abroad must comply with both the requirements of the host country and the Philippine government, including obtaining a permit to operate from the host country before seeking accreditation from the Department of Education.
