Chef Gary Rhodes cause of death in Dubai revealed
DUBAI – Dubai-based celebrity chef Gary Rhodes “collapsed” at his home and died due to natural causes, according to a newspaper report.
The Michelin star chef died in Dubai on November 26. He was 59. According to Dubai Police, he “died of natural causes”.
Khaleej Times quoted Jaideep Bhatia, PR head of Grosvenor House in Dubai, as saying that Rhodes had arrived home from filming of his new TV show prior to the incident.
"After a great day shooting for his show on ITV, Gary came home in good spirits, had a bath, and then dinner with his wife Jennie. It was while preparing for bed that he collapsed,” Bhati said.
He dismissed reports that Rhodes fell and got injured during filming.
Bhati said that Rhodes was taken to Al Zahra Hospital where he died due to “subdural haemetoma”, a type of bleeding where blood collects between the skull and the surface of the brain.
On Wednesday, Rhodes family confirmed news of his death, saying that the chef died “with his beloved wife Jennie by his side”.
Rhodes’ restaurant in Grosvenor House, Rhodes W1, will remain closed for the week as a mark of respect.
