Man jailed after scaring 1,000 chickens to death

After scaring 1,100 chickens belonging to his neighbor to death, a man in China was given a six-month prison sentence. Gu, identified by his last name, crept onto his neighbor's property and used a flashlight to terrify the chickens. In April 2022, the man and Zhong, his neighbor, got into a fight. Everything began when Gu felled several trees without first asking Zhong's permission. When Zhong's wife learned about the incident, she had the nearby trees taken away. He decided to infiltrate Zhong's property one night in retaliation. He used a flashlight, which caused the chickens to flee and crowd into a corner, killing 460 of them. The authorities then apprehended Gu and told them to pay 3,000 yuan (about Dh1,601 Dh) for the damages. Gu, however, entered his neighbor's yard again and terrorized the chickens similarly. This time, some 640 additional chickens perished due to their collision. He was found guilty of willfully causing Zhong to lose property by a court in the Chinese city of Hengyang, which stated that the damage was huge. The authorities estimated the cost of the dead hens to be 13,840 yuan (about Dh7,394). Gu was sentenced to six months in prison and a year of probation by the court after noticing that he had shown no regret for his actions. KD/Expat Media
