Job cuts at Cisco to affect 14,000 employees

  CALIFORNIA - At least 14,000 employees are losing their jobs after Cisco Systems Inc is laying off some of its workforce. Technology news site CRN said that the figure represents nearly 20 percent of the network equipment maker's global workforce. Although Cisco has not yet made any announcement, the California-based company is set to announce the cuts within the next few weeks. The company is reportedly undergoing transition from hardware roots into a software-centric organisation. The company has also reportedly offered many early retirement package plans to its employees. CRN noted that Cisco now requires "different skill sets" for the "software-defined future" compared to their needs in the past. Cisco declined to comment about it. As of April 30, the company is reported to have 70,000 employees.
