The Coca-Cola ARena in Citywalk, Dubai. ARCHIVE
The iconic Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai wasn’t always known by its current name. Before it first opened in June 2019, the state-of-the-art entertainment venue was simply called Dubai Arena. However, just months before its grand debut, the venue underwent a significant rebranding as part of a landmark naming rights agreement, officially becoming Coca-Cola Arena on April 9, 2019. The multi-purpose arena, which has a seating capacity of 17,000, is the largest indoor arena of its kind in the Middle East, hosting concerts, sports events, and exhibitions throughout the year. It is located in Dubai's Citywalk. The naming rights deal is part of Dubai’s larger push toward public-private partnerships, mirrors similar initiatives like those seen with the Dubai Metro stations. Coca-Cola’s sponsorship was part of a growing trend in Dubai where corporate entities collaborate with public institutions to support infrastructure projects. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), for instance, has employed a similar model with its metro station naming rights, allowing companies to bid for the opportunity to brand one of its stations. The venue’s partnership with Coca-Cola enabled additional branding opportunities, including exclusive marketing rights, access to premium seating, and co-branding at major events. Coca-Cola Arena’s striking red exterior, which bears the iconic logo of the beverage company, quickly became a recognizable landmark in Dubai. The rebranding of Dubai Arena to Coca-Cola Arena was more than just a name change; it marked the beginning of a new era in public-private partnerships in Dubai’s entertainment sector. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA, previously commented on similar naming rights initiatives, saying, “Naming rights provide companies with a unique platform to enhance brand recognition while contributing to the city’s infrastructure and economic growth.” Since its rebranding, Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena has hosted major international performers like Maroon 5, Travis Scott, and comedian Russell Peters. The arena has also become a go-to destination for regional cultural events and corporate gatherings. Coca-Cola’s ongoing involvement with the venue ensures that the brand remains deeply integrated into Dubai’s vibrant event scene. With the success of the Coca-Cola Arena naming rights agreement, more companies are expected to follow suit, leveraging naming rights as an innovative way to boost brand visibility and engage with local communities.
