The scandal involving Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR chief Kristin Cabot has taken a dramatic turn following the appearance of a second video showing them sharing an intimate moment during Coldplay’s “Yellow” performance—before the infamous kiss cam moment went viral. This longer clip, captured from behind, shows the pair close together as Byron leans in for a kiss. The footage suggests the relationship was no innocent moment caught off guard, leading to deeper scrutiny from the public and within the firm. The fallout has been swift: Byron has been placed on leave, and Cabot has been suspended. Astronomer’s board has launched a formal investigation, stating on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday (July 19): “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability. The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter.” Co-founder Pete DeJoy, Chief Product Officer, is currently serving as interim CEO. Byron reportedly issued a public apology following the viral exposure, although Astronomer has denied that the apology was issued by their CEO. Byron purportedly said: “What was supposed to be a night of music and joy turned into a deeply personal mistake… I want to sincerely apologize to my wife, my family, and the team at Astronomer.” But criticism has persisted. US therapist Richele Kramer described it as “textbook damage control,” saying Byron framed the incident as a public spectacle rather than addressing the personal betrayal. The scandal has also unleashed a wave of online mockery—users joked that Cabot should "revisit her HR manual," while former employees reportedly reacted with delight, labeling Byron a “toxic” boss and scoffing at his downfall. As the investigation proceeds, Astronomer employees and stakeholders are left to assess the long-term impact on company integrity and leadership culture. ICA/CAM/Expat Media
