Residents and tourists in Dubai will have more public transport options in the city when the Rail Bus service is launched in the emirate. The futuristic transport system, made entirely from recyclable materials, was introduced at the ongoing World Government Summit 2025 at Madinat Jumeirah. A model of the Rail Bus, featuring a striking gold and black exterior, is currently on display at the event. Unveiling the Rail Bus, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the 3D-printed, solar-powered public transport system is currently under development. The driverless Rail Bus is designed to run on elevated tracks across the emirate, offering an eco-friendly and cost-effective transit solution. Designed to travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h, the bus measures 2.9 meters in height and 11.5 meters in length. It can accommodate up to 40 passengers per trip, with each carriage containing 22 seats and dedicated spaces for disabled passengers. Screens above the seats will provide real-time journey updates, including stop locations, weather conditions, and time estimates. “The Rail Bus is a step toward a more sustainable, autonomous future for Dubai’s transport network,” an RTA spokesperson said. “It aligns with the emirate’s vision to become a global leader in smart mobility.” This project supports key national strategies, including the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy, Dubai’s Zero-Emissions Public Transport Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy 2030. The latter aims to convert 25 percent of all daily trips in Dubai to autonomous transport solutions. The lightweight, scalable 3D-printed structure of the Rail Bus is designed to minimize environmental impact while maximizing efficiency. The fully solar-powered system will reduce dependency on conventional energy sources, making it a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional modes of transport. The RTA has not yet confirmed the official launch date of the Rail Bus, but industry experts predict that the system will play a crucial role in reshaping Dubai’s public transport infrastructure.
