Compulsory bank accounts soon for Pakistani expats to remit money

  DUBAI – Having a bank account will soon be mandatory for Pakistani expatriates in the UAE who want to send remittances, an official said. The Pakistan government will enforce this rule soon in an effort to curb money laundering and illegal money remittances, said Syed Irfan Ali, executive director of the State Bank. Speaking on the sidelines of the Pakistan Remittance Summit in Dubai, Ali said the State Bank of Pakistan and the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis have finalised the plan. The deadline for opening mandatory bank accounts will be announced soon, he said. Ali said banks will be giving incentives to customers. Banks are also now liable for delays in the delivery of remittances by overseas Pakistanis, Ali said, adding that customers can demand compensation of up to 1,000 rupees per day.
