More consumer complaints in Dubai this year: what do consumers mostly complain about?

  DUBAI - More than 8,000 people have filed consumer complaints in Dubai in the first three months of this year alone, according to the Department of Economic Development. On an average day, 270 people file consumer complaints with the government department, totalling 8,166 people this quarter and putting the number 30 percent higher than last year. Consumer complaints accounted for 81 percent of the consumer complaints resolved by the Consumer Protection Section in the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection Sector of DED. Which sector received the highest number of complaints from consumers? The services sector with 33.9 percent of complaints filed. In the top ten are the electronics sector, e-commerce, automobiles, car rentals, textiles, personal items, furniture, shipping, clothing and accessories. “The retail sector is a key driver of local economic growth in Dubai and the UAE. Our effort is to bring greater transparency into business transactions, and create a culture of awareness and neutrality in the buying and selling processes in the retail sector, in accordance with the highest quality standards and practices,” said Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah, CEO of the CCCP Sector.
