Coronavirus in UAE: Abu Dhabi suspends cinemas, wedding celebrations

ABU DHABI – Abu Dhabi cinemas have been ordered temporarily closed effective immediately, while wedding celebrations will be banned starting on Sunday (March 14) as part of precautionary measures against the new coronavirus or Covid-19. The Department of Economic Development announced on Saturday (March 14), that cinemas in Abu Dhabi will remain closed until March 31. The authority said that the move is aimed at limiting gatherings that "may be the cause of the transmission of infection". "In line with preventative measures for coronavirus, the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development directs all owners of cinema halls to temporarily suspend their activities until the end of March 2020 and not open their doors to provide services to the public," a statement said. Earlier on Saturday, the UAE announced the temporary suspension of all new visas starting on March 17. Only those with diplomatic passports are exempt. Abu Dhabi also announced that tourist spots in the capital—including Louvre Abu Dhabi and Yas WaterWorld—will be closed until the end of the month to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Wedding parties banned
