Coronavirus in UAE: Sheikh Hamdan issues new rule on preventive measures

  DUBAI – Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, issued a new directive on preventive steps to limit the spread of the new coronavirus or Covid-19. Dubai Government Human Resources Department Director General Abdulla Al Falasi said that precautionary and preventive measures will be implemented in all Dubai Government departments. The new directive aims to “ensure the health and safety of government employees and contribute to local and international efforts to combat the pandemic”. Read the official statement here Abdulla Al Basti, Secretary-General of The Executive Council, said the preventive measures are part of the Dubai Government’s efforts to provide maximum flexibility in working conditions in the time of coronavirus. “His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, directed us to implement all procedures required to protect Dubai Government employees and their families,” Al Basti said.

Here are the preventive measures to be observed:

Self-quarantine for returning employees

Government employees returning from overseas trips have been directed to stay at home until it is proven that they are not infected. In such cases, employees will receive their full salary and be allowed to work from home.

Suspension of use of fingerprint attendance machines

Government employees will stop using fingerprint attendance machine and will instead use “Smart Employee” apps or alternative attendance systems.

Work from home scheme

Pregnant female employees, elderly employees, employees with disabilities and employees with diseases that compromise the immune system will be allowed to work from home.

Postponement of events

Government departments are also told to postpone events and gatherings.

Flexible working hours

Government departments will be required to allow flexible working-hours for mothers with children in Grade 9 or below.

Sterilization of facility and equipment

Government departments will also be asked to sterilize their facility, furniture, office equipment, vehicles and elevators.

Online services

All departments have also been directed to encourage their customers to use online customer service apps.

Postponement of overseas assignments

Government employees have been directed to postpone non-critical overseas assignments and training programmes, especially in high-risk countries, and instead use online meeting technologies. ICA/Expat Media
