Covid-19 breath test approved for use in Singapore after Dubai trial run
DUBAI – A Covid-19 breath test that can give results very quickly is now approved for use in Singapore after a clinical trial run in Dubai. The BreFence Go breathalyser can deliver accurate Covid-19 test results within one minute. In comparison, a typical PCR test can take up to 48 hours to process. The breathalyser, developed by Breathonix, works by having an individual exhale into a disposable one-way valve mouthpiece, which will measure and analyse certain biomarkers. In Singapore, the health ministry will test the technology on incoming travelers from Malaysia. Those who test positive in the breathalyser test will be asked to take a PCR swab test. This will be part of Singapore’s trial run with the breathalyser. The country currently uses antigen rapid tests to screen travelers. In Dubai, a joint clinical trial of the breathalyser was carried out with Dubai Health Authority and Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences. The breath test was trialled on 2,500 patients at Nadd Al Hamar primary health care centre in Dubai earlier this year.
