Calling Covid-19 volunteers: the UAE needs you now

DUBAI – The UAE government has called on expatriates and Emiratis with background in healthcare to volunteer in the country’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Volunteers can register through volunteers.ae to assist in “additional operations”, said Masoud Al Hosani, programme manager of Sanid, an official programme to train volunteers in “large-scale emergencies, crises and disasters”. Al Hosani said that specialized volunteers will be “sent to critical situation sites”. Currently, more than 1,000 people have signed up and are working with authorities in hospitals, quarantine zones and hotels in the UAE. In Dubai, volunteers have been assigned at two health centres where they help in carrying out temperature checks and swab analysis, as well as crowd control and sanitation operations in the centres, Al Hosani said. Others are manning quarantine centres in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, assisting in sanitation operations in Umm Al Quwain or delivering medicine to families in Ras Al Khaimah. As of Monday, the number of coronavirus cases in the UAE was at 2,076, with 11 deaths and 167 recoveries. ICA/Expat Media
