Crane falls, several cars crushed in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI - One person was injured and several vehicles crushed after a construction crane fell in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, police said.
The victim was sitting inside his vehicle when the crane collapsed on Hamdan Street in Al Zahiyah, also known as the capital's Tourist Club area.
Police said that the crane, mounted on a truck, fell and smashed onto five vehicles parked nearby. An investigation is underway to find out the circumstances surrounding the incident.
There have been other incidents involving cranes in the UAE, where construction works are ongoing.
On Saturday, a crane collapsed at a construction site in Sharjah, killing a 34-year-old Indian worker and seriously injuring a 23-year-old Pakistani worker.
It took rescuers seven hours to recover the body of the Indian worker who was crushed to death after the crane loaded with tonnes of concrete collapsed on him at the construction site in Al Nahda.
In February last year, four cars were destroyed, of which two went up in flames, after a construction crane fell along Sheikh Zayed Road due to strong winds.
