Forbes names 100 richest sports personalities of the year; Serena Williams is lone woman in the list

  NEW YORK CITY - With their respective hefty pay and endorsement deals worth millions of dollars, Real Madrid stalwart Cristiano Ronaldo and the Cleveland Cavaliers' superstar LeBron James are Forbes magazine's top two highest-paid athletes this year. It's the second consecutive year that the Portuguese forward topped the magazine's list of the 100 richest sports personalities. Forbes reported that Ronaldo earned a total of US$93 million broken down as follows: US$58 million as salary and US$35 million from endorsement deals. Ronaldo's contract with Real Madrid was recently extended for four more years and he will get at least US$50 million annually. He also signed a lifetime endorsement contract with Nike worth more than US$1 billion. Aside from Nike, Ronaldo is also an endorser of Tag Heuer, Herbalife and Abbott. He also runs CR7, a business that includes clothes, fragrance and a line of hotels. On the other hand, James' estimated earnings is at US$86.2 million. He earned US$31 million as salary alone while the rest of his income is from endorsement deals with Intel, Verizon, Nike, Coca-Cola, Beats by Dre, among others. James took over the second spot from Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, who dropped to third with US$80 million. Like last year, Roger Federer (US$64 million) and Kevint Durant of Golden State Warriors (US$60.6 million) are in fourth and fifth places, respectively, in this year's list. American tennis star Serena Williams is the lone woman in the roster with estimated earnings of US$27 million that included US$19 million from endorsements. She ranked 51st.
