Cristy Fermin, a veteran Filipino showbiz columnist, is now facing legal action after a Quezon City court issued arrest warrants against her and two co-hosts of her online show. The move follows a libel case filed by actress Bea Alonzo, who accused the trio of making “false, malicious, and damaging” claims during multiple broadcasts in 2024. Also facing arrest are co-hosts Wendell Alvarez and Rommel Villamor. Bail has been set at ₱48,000 (Dh3,055) each. The Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 93, presided over by Judge Cherry Chiara Hernando, found “probable cause to hold the accused for trial,” according to a court order dated July 21. Alonzo filed the case in May 2024, following a barrage of online accusations from Fermin, including claims about the actress’ alleged tax issues and a supposed labor case filed by her former driver. These statements surfaced shortly after Alonzo ended her engagement with actor Dominic Roque—an event frequently dissected in Fermin’s broadcasts. “ asserted her right to proceed with filing these criminal cases against the individuals responsible for making all of these damaging statements against her,” said her legal counsel in a statement. Fermin, for her part, denied wrongdoing and said their reports were “done fairly,” dismissing the reaction as overly sensitive. “Huwag tayong balat sibuyas,” she said on her show. Alonzo has also filed separate libel complaints against showbiz personality Ogie Diaz, who was recently in Dubai, and an unnamed individual who allegedly impersonated her online. CAM/Expat Media
