Crowding, recording at UAE accident sites to cost you Dh150,000

  DUBAI – In a fresh warning to motorists and residents, authorities said that crowding at accident sites or taking photos are “irresponsible behavior” that are also against the law. In the UAE, taking photos or videos at accident sites and posting these on social media can lead to imprisonment and a fine of up to Dh150,000. Motorists obstructing or blocking roads near accident sites will also be fined Dh1,000. The Ministry of Interior, in a recent statement, said that crowding at accident sites may delay the rescue of victims and prevent emergency personnel from reaching the crash site on time. Circulating images of accidents “is deemed an irresponsible behaviour among the citizens. It is also a violation of the law", the ministry said. "The circulation of these images is unacceptable as it can cause a psychological shock to the families of victims when they view such images," said the ministry. "Taking pictures of accident scenes and sharing them online is against the UAE's values derived from the Islamic concept of tolerance." Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, director of Traffic and Patrols of the Abu Dhabi Police, echoed the same sentiment. "Crowding and taking photos at accident sites could delay the work of traffic patrols, ambulances and civil defence vehicles, which will result in worsening the condition of the injured or may even cause fatalities,” Al Khaili said.
