Daredevil selfie takers in Dubai warned

  DUBAI – Following a spate of death-defying selfie stunts on Dubai's skyscrapers, the Dubai Municipality has come out with a stern warning. The official circular issued on Tuesday obligated building owners to ensure that there is round-the-clock security and surveillance to prevent unauthorised people from accessing dangerous areas of buildings. It also ordered building owners to take the necessary measures to prevent exploitation of their premises by "reckless adventurers". Recently, several people have sneaked illegally up the rooftops of Dubai's towers to perform stunts without safety gear and posted videos of their dangerous stunts on social media. "We want to reduce the risks that may result from lack of safety requirements in public places and buildings or the risks that occur as a result of dangerous practices due to the hobbies and adventures practiced by some people endangering their lives," said Khalid Mohammed Sharif, Assistant Director General for Environment, Health and Safety Control Sector. This week a Russian couple was caught on video free-scaling the 60-storey Millennium Tower in Dubai.
  Weeks before this incident, British daredevil James Kingston was arrested for scaling a crane at a construction site in Dubai.
