Daughter who lied about abuse ‘dating strangers’ in Dubai

  DUBAI – Police said that a Dubai resident who claimed that her father abused her and her two sisters lied to authorities. “She has had many problems and fights with her parents,” said Brigadier Dr Mohammad Al Murr, Director-General of the General Directorate of Human Rights at Dubai Police. The woman, whom police did not identify, had called up the Al Ameen hotline to report that her father abused her, but investigators later discovered that she was the one abusing her parents. “She even tried to beat her father,” Al Murr said. During interrogation, the father told the police that his daughter rebelled because he disapproved of her friends and her “habit of dating strangers”. He said that his daughter filed an abuse complaint against him after he took away her passport. Meanwhile, Colonel Abu Bakr Al Jasmi, Director of the Women and Child Protection section in Dubai Police, said that the woman later confessed to the police that she wanted independence. “She said that she was dating strangers just to punish her family. She also admitted that she had goaded her two sisters, who are students, to leave the house and date strangers too to punish her parents,” Al Jasmi said. The family members have since reconciled following counseling sessions with a social specialist.
