Investigation into mishap launched by authorities in Vancouver

  VANCOUVER – A rookie female stunt person died on the set of "Deadpool 2" while performing a motorcycle stunt, Vancouver police said in a statement. The police also said WorkSafeBC, which oversees occupational safety in the British Columbia, and The Coroners Service of British Columbia are conducting an investigation into the accident that killed the stuntwoman, who was not identified. Deadline.com however learned from a spokesman for the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) that the stuntwoman was Joi "SJ" Harris and described her as the first African-American female professional road racer. Harris however was not a member of ACTRA, Deadline was told. WorkSafeBC and the Coroners Service said the accident happened at 1000 Block of West Waterfront Road near Jack Poole Plaza. Production was reportedly halted immediately after the accident. 20th Century Fox studio released a statement saying: "We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of 'Deadpool 2' this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time." The tragedy is the second fatal on-set accident in recent weeks.
