The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has set December 31 as the final deadline this year for private sector companies with 20 to 49 employees to hire at least one Emirati. This follows a Cabinet decision expanding Emiratisation targets to smaller firms. By 2025, firms are required to hire one additional UAE citizen. The MoHRE has warned companies that failure to meet their targets will result in penalties starting at Dh96,000, with fines increasing to Dh108,000 for missed 2025 targets. The ministry emphasized that firms should not delay and urged them to utilize the Nafis platform to recruit qualified Emirati candidates. The ministry also stressed that any attempts to bypass the rules through “Fake Emiratisation” would be met with strict penalties.
