Dutco Balfour Beatty awarded Dh46M contract to build first phase of project

  DUBAI – The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded to Dutco Balfour Beatty a Dh46-million contract to carry out the first phase of construction of DEWA's new headquaters which will have robots doing the cleaning and carrying out security functions. In a statement, DEWA said the two-million-square-foot Al-Sheraa building will be the "tallest, largest, and smartest government net zero energy building in the world". It will be built at the Cultural Village in Al Jadaf, Dubai and its design is patterned after traditional houses in the UAE, where enclosed spaces overlook an open courtyard. DEWA said Al-Sheraa will have 16,500 square meters of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof to produce over 3,500 kilowatts (kW) of energy as well as 2,000 square metees of building-integrated photovoltaic panels. The total renewable energy to be generated from the building is over 5,800 megawatt hours (MWh) yearly, according to DEWA. Phase 1 of the construction of Al Sheraa includes shoring, dewatering, excavation, piling, fencing and associated works, the DEWA statement said. The Al-Sheraa is expected to be completed and inaugurated sometime during the last quarter of 2019. DEWA also said the building will have robots to do the cleaning and provide security services while a smart app will alert the employees about the time they should leave their homes based on the traffic to reach the office on time; book parking slots and meeting rooms; and can be used by visitors to reach the building and meeting rooms.
